College Profile

The collective group of people of different communities had formed " A Society for Higher Education" at Ampati Market and established the Ampati Degree College in the year of 2000 with special focus to give extra attention for the progress of Higher educational development as well as the socio-economic benefits for the people of Ampati and its surrounding areas.

The first idea of establishing college was started in 1980, but lacks of finance and man power made the dream unsuccessful. In 1995, the general citizens of Ampati and its surrounding areas assembled for the second time but again due to same reason their dream remains unfulfilled. However, after the five years gap another public meeting was held with a view to revitalize the spirit of establishing college. The meeting was conducted under the guidance ship of Shri Nolledhy S. Daring (Lasker of Ampati Village Court) on 15 February 2000, in the premises of Ampati Bazar Complex, and thus, a project to establish college, and took a final shape.

Before 2000, the young boys and girls who wanted to for degree study had to go to Tura or to Shillong, and many were unable to pursue degree level education because of financial problem, or due to unavailability of seats in the colleges at Tura and Shillong. A college therefore, was a long-felt need of the young boys and girls of Ampati sub-Sub-Divisional area (now District). It is true, that some of the well known leaders had become conscious that unless a degree college is established at Ampati, the future of the local citizens will be hopeless. Keeping this in mind the hard-working citizens of the areã established the College with a vission to make their young people equiped with skills and knowlwdge.

In the beginning, the college was started at the residential building of Smt. Batji M. Marak, A king Nokma of Chengkompara village. However, now the college had acquired a sizable plot of land in the heart of Ampati Town. At present, the college stands on its permanent campus with playground for games and sports.
